Simplify a platform that had become unnecessarily complicated, without losing the premium feel
WordPress, HTML/CSS, JavaScript
Sampan Travel already had an established online presence, but the website had become harder to manage than it needed to be.
It had been built on Magento, which is a powerful platform for online stores. The problem was that Sampan wasn’t running a traditional eCommerce business. Every holiday was tailored to the traveller, so much of Magento’s functionality simply wasn’t being used.
That extra complexity came at a cost.
Pages felt slower, content was difficult to manage, and the overall experience didn’t match the calm, personal approach that defines the Sampan brand.
The brief was clear. Keep the beautiful photography and rich travel content, but build a website that’s lighter, faster, and much easier for both visitors and the team behind the scenes. As part of this WordPress website design Perth project, we rebuilt the site from the ground up, creating a faster, simpler experience that lets the destinations and travel experiences do the talking.
Before writing a single line of code, we spent time understanding how travellers actually used the website.
People weren’t looking for hundreds of products to compare. They were looking for inspiration. Destinations. Experiences. A reason to book a journey they wouldn’t find anywhere else.
That changed the direction of the project.
Instead of forcing the content into a complex eCommerce structure, we reorganised it around the destinations and travel experiences people naturally wanted to explore. Each section had a clear purpose, making it easier to discover itineraries without feeling overwhelmed.
Working closely with the Sampan team, we also reviewed existing content, refined the site structure, and created dedicated landing pages that better reflected the different types of travel they offer.
WordPress was the right fit for this project.
It gave Sampan Travel a flexible content management system without the overhead of the previous platform. The site became easier to update, while visitors enjoyed a noticeably faster experience.
As part of this WordPress web design Perth project, we developed a bespoke WordPress theme tailored to the business rather than relying on an off-the-shelf template. That meant cleaner code, fewer unnecessary features, and a website that focused on performance from the start.
We also introduced page caching and optimised the way content was delivered, helping large destination imagery load quickly without compromising the experience.
To support the booking process, we integrated a tailored payment solution that allowed the Sampan team to send personalised travel quotes with simple click-to-pay links, making it easier for customers to confirm their bookings.
Travel is visual.
People want to imagine themselves standing on a quiet beach, walking through ancient temples, or cruising along the Irrawaddy River before they ever enquire.
So we made photography one of the strongest features of the website.
Large imagery sits alongside clean layouts and straightforward navigation, allowing visitors to explore destinations without distractions. The design feels calm and considered, reflecting the pace of the journeys Sampan creates.
Behind the scenes, we kept the editing experience just as simple. The team can update destinations, itineraries, and content without needing technical support, giving them the flexibility to keep the site fresh as their tours evolve.
The finished website feels much more like Sampan Travel.
It’s faster, easier to navigate, and gives the business a platform that’s simple to manage long after launch. Visitors can explore destinations, discover travel experiences, and enquire about tailor-made itineraries without fighting the technology.
For us, this project shows that good WordPress development Perth isn’t about adding more features. Sometimes it’s about removing the unnecessary ones.
By replacing an overly complex platform with a custom WordPress solution, we gave Sampan Travel a website that better reflects the quality of the experiences they offer and provides a stronger foundation for future growth.
The new WordPress website gives travellers an easier way to discover unique experiences across Myanmar, while giving the team complete control over their content without unnecessary complexity.
Sampan Travel stands as a good example of how thoughtful WordPress web design can support a growing business by keeping the technology simple and letting the brand take centre stage.
