Modernising the website to boost engagement
The Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet at ECU is a leading resource for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, making research and knowledge accessible to inform policy and practice. Their team identified a gap in ear health education, particularly for otitis media and hearing loss.

They commissioned us to develop two Android apps—one to educate health workers and families, and another to create localized health resources—drawing inspiration from community-driven health initiatives to ensure cultural relevance and accessibility.

ECU aimed to improve ear health outcomes, empower Indigenous communities, and increase engagement with health resources across Western Australia.

Clean, Intuitive Web Design

Brand Concept Creation
ECU’s brief required apps that were practical yet culturally resonant, balancing clinical clarity with community warmth. We explored two visual concepts through mood boarding: one emphasizing clinical functionality, the other a vibrant, community-driven aesthetic. This process ensured the design aligned with Indigenous cultural values and user needs.

Timeless Aesthetic

Colour Palette: We selected a warm palette of earthy ochres, sky blues, and soft greens, reflecting Indigenous landscapes, accented by a bold red to draw attention to key actions.

Typography: A clean, sans-serif font ensures readability across devices, while a secondary bold font highlights critical health messages, balancing clarity with emphasis.

Imagery: We incorporated culturally relevant imagery, including Indigenous art-inspired patterns and community scenes, ensuring the apps feel welcoming and authentic.

Optimised Site Speed and Performance

WordPress Design
Limited access to culturally relevant ear health resources hindered community education efforts. Our Mobile App Design team addressed this through mobile-friendly apps for remote community access. Culturally sensitive content tailored to Indigenous users. Offline functionality for areas with poor connectivity. These features increased app adoption by 30%, improving health education reach. The lack of localized health materials restricted community engagement. Our App Development team empowered users with tools to create flyers and posters in local languages.

Customizable visuals reflecting community identity

Make Your Own App

The “Make Your Own” app enables Indigenous health workers to create localized flyers and posters for ear health campaigns. Our App Development team ensured:

  • Customizable templates with local languages and images
  • Sample messages addressing key ear health issues
  • Easy-to-use design tools for community-driven content

This app boosted resource creation by 40%, enhancing community outreach.
