The Challenge

FSDT works to strengthen financial inclusion across Tanzania by supporting initiatives that improve access to financial services. Their website plays an important role in sharing research, programmes, and resources with government bodies, partners, and the wider community.

FSDT had plenty of valuable content, but the website wasn’t doing enough to support it.

Visitors needed a simple way to explore research, projects, publications, and financial programmes without feeling overwhelmed. At the same time, the team wanted a website that was straightforward to update as new initiatives and resources were released.

Performance was another priority.

The new website needed to load quickly, work well across all devices, and provide a solid foundation for ongoing SEO. It wasn’t just about giving the site a fresh look. It needed a better structure from the ground up.

Our Approach

Before we started designing, we looked closely at how people were using the website.

Different audiences were visiting for different reasons. Some were looking for reports. Others wanted information about ongoing programmes or funding initiatives. The navigation had to make sense regardless of where someone entered the site.

We reworked the content structure, simplified the user journey, and organised information into clear sections that were easier to browse. The aim wasn’t to add more pages. It was to help visitors find what they were looking for without unnecessary clicks.

Alongside the new structure, we planned the site with search engines in mind, giving every section room to grow as new content was published.

Custom WordPress Website Development

WordPress gave FSDT the flexibility they needed without adding unnecessary complexity.

Rather than relying on an off-the-shelf template, we developed a custom WordPress website built around the organisation’s content and day-to-day workflow. Every section was designed to make publishing, editing, and managing information as straightforward as possible.

The build focused on clean code, responsive layouts, and performance. The website works seamlessly across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, giving visitors a consistent experience wherever they access the site.

Because content is central to FSDT’s work, we also made sure the backend was easy for the team to manage. New articles, reports, and programme updates can be published quickly without relying on a developer.

Design & User Experience

Financial information doesn’t need to feel complicated.

We kept the design clean, allowing the content to take centre stage while creating a clear visual hierarchy across every page. Reports, resources, and programme information are easier to scan, making the website more approachable for both new and returning visitors.

Responsive design was also a key consideration. Whether someone is accessing the site from an office computer or a mobile phone, the experience remains consistent and easy to navigate.

Small improvements to the layout, spacing, and navigation all add up, helping visitors spend less time searching and more time engaging with the information that matters.

Supporting Long-Term SEO

Launching the website was only part of the project.

To help FSDT reach a wider audience, we paired the new website with an ongoing SEO strategy focused on improving search visibility and increasing organic traffic.

A well-structured website gave us the foundation we needed. From there, we refined page content, improved technical performance, and optimised key sections to make them easier for search engines to understand.

The result was a website that ranked on the first page of Google for the majority of its target search terms, helping more people discover FSDT’s work through organic search.

The Outcome

The finished website gives FSDT a platform that reflects the importance of the work they do.

Information is easier to find, content is simpler to manage, and the website provides a much better experience for visitors across every device. Behind the scenes, the WordPress CMS gives the team the flexibility to keep the site current as new projects, publications, and initiatives are introduced.

For us, this project highlights the value of a custom WordPress website. When the platform is built around the organisation instead of forcing the organisation to fit the platform, the result is a website that’s easier to use, easier to maintain, and ready to support long-term growth.

The Results

Good websites don’t need to be complicated. They just need to make information easy to find and simple to understand.

By designing and developing a custom WordPress website, we gave FSDT a platform that’s faster, easier to navigate, and built around the way the team works.

Combined with a long-term SEO strategy, the new site helped strengthen their online presence and made it easier for people to discover the valuable work they’re doing across Tanzania.

Conclusion

A website like FSDT has an important job to do. It needs to communicate complex information clearly, support a wide range of users, and remain easy to manage as the organisation grows.

For FSDT, that’s exactly what this project achieved. The new custom WordPress website gives the organisation a flexible platform to share its work, publish new resources, and connect with a wider audience. It’s a site that’s easier for visitors to use, easier for the team to manage, and well positioned to support FSDT for years to come.
